Background/introduction
The aim of this poster is to present the Fluoroscopic doses for paediatric patients and the radiation protection optimization implemented for the common fluoroscopic procedures in DHA (Dubai Health Authority) - Children hospital. DHA is committed towards the implementation of ArabSafe aims of paediatric radiation safety (ArabSafe objective no. 2 statement: Promote safer pediatric imaging in Arab countries) and the promotion of radiation safety culture in UAE. The worldwide increase in use of ionizing radiation in diagnostic medical imaging each year is increasing the dose to the population. Special attention has been given to paediatric population as they are at higher risk from ionizing radiation than adults. The Paediatric Radiation Protection journey of DHA demonstrate the ongoing actions of Radiation Safety program in optimization of fluoroscopic procedures. The program includes the implementation of Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs) for medical applications in UAE and utilization of ultrasound imaging as an effective diagnostic tool to replace ionizing radiation procedures for peadiatric patients.
