Conclusion and recommendations
Several attempts are made to avoid these re-takes of radiologic images (additional 5mGy*cm²) but a clear identification when bad images are reconstructed or not could not be definitely estimated.
Since the source for this false image reconstruction is still not clear (even after the manufacturer was involved), we decided to perform every pediatric hand x-ray of patients below the age of 10 years with covering the flat panel detector (left and right beside the hand) of the Samsung system with small lead protection devices such as pediatric aprons.
To prevent other radiology institutions of gaining diagnostic unusable images we advise them to do the same x-ray practice as we do (see above) to safe additional exposure to the patients and the personell or parents who have to keep them in stable position.
