Purpose or learning objective
Radiation protection in medical applications is well established throughout Europe, however still facing challenges like large differences in procedures between countries. New promising approaches like e.g. artificial intelligence or personalized medicine approaches need to be investigated regarding their potential for radiation protection. The European Alliance for Medical Radiation Protection Research (EURAMED) platform has been established to promote such research. Together with five other platforms research on radiation protection is promoted basically in the EURATOM framework. Acknowledging the importance of medical applications as the largest man-made...
Methods or background
Acknowledging the importance of medical applications as the largest man-made source of exposure with ionizing radiation and the great possibilities of applying ionizing radiation in medicine, the EURATOM programme has launched a call for a coordination and support action to develop a strategic research agenda (SRA) on medical applications of ionizing radiation in general allowing to improve links to other programs like HEALTH or DIGITALIZATION. A strategic research agenda in this context is a document based on consensus of a large group of stakeholders which...
Results or findings
This poster provides an overview of the current status of the project. The first main step is to elaborate whether the questions that needs to be addressed within the strategic research agenda are still the same as they had been identified during the preparation of the project proposal.
To do so, a first workshop has been organized in december 2020. During this workshop a consensus has been achieved regarding the potential topics of the SRA that will be developed during the course of the EURAMED...
Conclusion
We ask all interested stakeholders, researchers, medical professionals as well as patient representatives throughout Europe to use the potential possibilities to contribute to such documents to be developed as the SRA, the roadmap and the interlink document. We are happy to take your comments and invite you to follow the progress of the project.
