Description of activity and work performed
A CIG-awareness survey using a structured questionnaire was done for 21 head CT referrers at Mengo Hospital, Uganda. The questionnaire was divided into 3 themes with a particular number of questions (General radiation protection knowledge-3, introduction to and definition of CIGs-4 questions and application of CIGs for various clinical conditions -11 questions). Two teaching sessions on RP and CIG were then delivered to the referrers through CME and the same structured questionnaire re-administered after 6 months to check on the level of knowledge retention. Scores were summarized as proportions.
A percentage difference between the pre and post-intervention scores for each sub-theme was calculated to determine knowledge retention
For the baseline assessment, scores were 41%, 46% and 61% for the questions on; General RP knowledge, the definition of CIGs and application of CIGs respectively.
For the post-intervention assessment, the scores were 83%, 79% and 94% the questions on; RP protection knowledge, the definition of CIGs and application of CIGs respectively.
The percentage increase general knowledge on RP, the definition of CIG and application of CIG was 34%, 26.4 %, and 21 % respectively
