Methods and materials
PATIENT SELECTION:
•Prior ultrasound screening was done for every patient who came for MRI shoulder with clinical suspicion of rotator cuff tear.
INCLUSION CRITERIA :
•All clinically suspicious cases of rotator cuff tear, for whom prior ultrasound screening and MRI study was done and who later underwent surgery (arthroscopy/open surgery).
EXCLUSION CRITERIA :
•Contraindicated to MRI.
•Any prior shoulder surgery of same side before imaging.
Of 75 patients who were diagnosed with rotator cuff tear, only 56 were included in study group in whom arthroscopy/open surgery confirmation was available.
Place of Study- Nair Hospital, Mumbai.
Duration of study- May 2017 to November 2018.
EQUIPMENTS USED
•For Ultrasonography- TOSHIBA XARIO MACHINE with linear array transducer probe PLT-704AT 7.5 MHz.

Standard views were obtained for rotator cuff muscles in each patient with patient sitting on swivel chair.

•For MRI- Philips 1.5T Achieva 16 channel super conducting magnet MRI machine.
Coil used-Medium sized Flex coil.

Position –Patient placed in supine position with shoulder & arm placed alongside parallel to body positioned in neutral position.
The slice thickness was 3 to 5mm. The overall duration of the examination was 30-40 minutes.
