Congenital variations of inferior vena cava in the general population were described in approximately a proportion of 4%. Because of this complexity in its embryogenesis, there are numerous anatomical forms and variations, which can occur alone or in combination. We have reviewed the congenital variations of the inferior vena cava (IVC) and present some cases from our hospital in the last yearsto illustrate this patology.

There are numerous anatomical forms and variations of IVC congenital anomalies because of thecomplexity in its embryogenesis.Although these anomalies are not very frequent, andmost ofthe patients are asymptomatic, awareness of these variations is important for surgical procedures, and they should not be mistaken for masses or lymph nodes.
