Learning objectives
Illustrate the primary role of imaging in the evaluation of response in solid tumors
Provide an educational toll to make it easier to use these criteria by clinicians in the evaluation and guidance of cancer treatments
Background
RECIST = Response Evaluation Criteria In Solid Tumors
It's a Tumor response evaluation system for solid cancers
RECIST doesnt work for:
lymphoma,
Glioblastoma and leukemia
Why do we need an evaluation system ?
An international standard for an objective evaluation of tumor response
To reduce interobserver variability
To provide a robust referencial for classifying the therapeutic response
To improve the comparison between different studies
To better evaluate tumor response after chemotherapy
To allow better care support for cancer patients
That’s...
Findings and procedure details
CASE N1
45 years old male,
followed for poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma of the pancreas with liver metastasis,
diagnosed in December 2016
Fig. 8
Fig. 9
We defined 3 target lesions (pancreas tail + 2 liver metastasis)
Initial RECIST(SLD) was :
SLD:44+57+37=138 mm
resultsAfter 3 chemotherapy sessions shown in the CT of March 2017 Fig. 10

Conclusion
RECIST
Tumor response evaluation system
Sometimes difficult to use,
indeed
Helps imporve the quality of routine exams
A powerful Productivity and communication tool
Case-by-case discussion is often necessary in multidisciplinary staff to resolve challenging cases
