Aims and objectives
It is known that the bone mineral density (BMD) of the calcaneus is related to the sports practice,
which could be with ground impact or not.
Thus,
it is expected that individuals who practice sport have an higher BMD than sedentary individuals (1).
The dynamic nature of bone means that new tissue is constantly formed,
while old,
injured,
or unnecessary bone is dissolved for repair or for calcium release.

Methods and materials
Quantitative,
descriptive and experimental study.
The sample was based on individuals with different age groups and different practice of sports (football,
basketball,
swimming practitioners,
as well as individuals without any physical activity practiced).
In the phase 1,
anthropometric data from the participants were collected through a digital scale Tanita CS601.
In the phase 2,
measurements of the calcaneus using a broadband ultrasound attenuation (BUA) imaging,
Sahara Hologic Bone Densitometer,
were made by a trained radiographer.

Results
Initially,
the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was performed and allowed to determinate that sample distribution is not normal.
In Table 1 was show the frequency distribution by sport where the highest is 26.7% (football) and the lowest is 22.5% (swimming).
Since swimming is not a ground impact sport,
it reaches a higher peak between 0.5 and 0.599.
In football,
the interval between 0.6 and 0.699 is predominant,
followed by the interval of 0.5 to 0.599 and finally that of 0.7 to 0.799.

Conclusion
Physical activity is essential for the physical and psychological well-being of each individual.
At the physical level it allows the gain of muscular mass,
the waist circumference is smaller and mainly it aids in the gain of bone mineral density.
This is related to lifestyle and level of physical activity practiced.
The physical activity influences bone mineral density of the calcaneus,
resulting in bone strengthening mainly in sports with ground impact,
preventing osteoporosis and/or related pathologies.
