Aims and objectives
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of ophthalmic artery (OA) and central retinal artery (CRA) flow parameters in pseudoexfoliation syndrome (XFS),
Pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (XFG),
normotensive glaucoma (NTG),
primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).
Methods and materials
One hundred sixty six patients (284 eyes) were enrolled in this prospective study.
All subjects were given a complete ophthalmological examination and orbital ultrasound were performed.
In color Doppler US,
the spectral flow samples were evaluated.
PSV,
EDV,
and RI values for bilateral OA and CRA were noted (Figure1-2).
Resistivity index (RI) of OAand CRA of 48 eyes (40 patients) with XFS,
51 eyes (31 patients) with XFG,
14 eyes (7 patients) with NTG,
81 eyes (42 patients) with POAG and 90 eyes (46 patients)...
Results
The mean OARI and CRARI values were found lower in healty subject than all patients group(0.68,
0.63 respectively).
This values were 0.72,
0.67 in XFS; 0.74,
0.67 in XFG; 0.71,
0.65 in POAG; 0.73,
0.66 in NTG.(Table 1) All results were statistically significant.(p=0,000)
The mean age was 61,2±7.65 in healty subject,
68,1±7,62 in XFS,
71,0±7.59 in XFG,64,9±7,60 in POAG,
62,7 ±10,1 in NTG.
Conclusion
According to our findings RI of both ophthalmic artery and central retinal artery in pseudoexfoliation syndrome (XFS),
Pseudoexfoliation glaucoma(XFG),
normotensiveglaucoma (NTG) and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) are differ from healthy patientssignificantly.
Thus RI calculation may have an important role in early diagnose of glaucomaand can be added as routine follow-up to patients under risk.
It also can be used as asupportive quantity for the suspicious findings in diagnosis of glaucoma.
