Aims and objectives
Bowel ischemia or infarction is a common but complex disorder with various primary causes and clinical presentations and high mortality.
It is caused by insufficient blood flow to the intestin from various causes,
including thromboembolism and non occlusive causes.
Computed tomography occupies a preponderant place in diagnosis,
even more so,
with the advent of multidetector CT by dint of their high spatial resolution and the speed of acquisition.
The purpose of this study was to show the Interest of the abdominal angio-scanner in the positive...
Methods and materials
A retrospective analysis concerning 20 patients over a 4 years period from 2015 to 2018
All exams were performed in the arterial and venous phases after contrast injection.
A slice thickeness of 2.5 mm and a reconstruction interval of 1.25 mm were selected in all cases,
using the same 16 ansd 64 slices - CT scanner
The frequency of visualization of direct (thrombus) and indirect (wall thickening or thinning,
spontaneous wall hyperdensity,
lack of contrast enhancement of the wall of the loop,
pneumatosis,
mesenteric oedema,...
Results
The median age of presentation was 52.4 years (range 27 to 82 years),
with male preponderance (a sex ratio of 1,7).
A history of heart failure was found in 4 patients,
chronic smoking in 8 patients,
alcoholism in 3 patients and HTA in 7 patients.
The clinical manifestations noted in this study were as follows: abdominal pain in 16 patients,
vomiting in 13 cases,
stopping of materials and gases in 6 patients,
cardiogenic shock state in 2 and rectorrhages in 3 patients.
In 10 patients...
Conclusion
Intestinal ischemia is a serious and fatal digestive disease.
CT has an important role in the diagnosis of this condition,
identifying the site,
level,
and cause of bowel ischemia.
It allows evaluation of the mesenteric vessels and detection of ischemic changes of the intestinal loops as well as associated complications
