Purpose
We developed a technique for treatment of the muscle,
tendon and joint of the ankle through ultrasound guidance in cases of muscle and tendinous fibrosis and metaplasia that hindered the recovery of the athlete.
Methods and Materials
We have used a machine Philips Ui22 with a linear probe by 17.5 MHz .
All selected athletes did not have any benefit from traditional treatments with standard physical therapy rehabilitation protocols and by the modification of their athletic training ,
according to their problems.
We have treated 15 athletes from different sports ( soccer,
hockey, rugby, basketball, volleyball) with a comnined treatment on tendons,
myotendinous joints and intraarticular sites.
The treatment has been carried on with ultrasound guidance and a linear probe by 17.5 MHz through the...
Results
We selected athlete presenting functional deficit and limitation of the ankle,
caused by osteochondral lesions due to overuse and intraarticular loose bodies associated with a tendinous compromission caused by chronic tendinopathy with peritendinitis and calcifications.
All athletes suffered from relapsing partial intratendinous tear with pain and functional limitations,
associated with bone calcific metaplasia,
favoring the continuous lesions.
8 patients have been treated for the Achilles’ tendon ( Fig.2 ,
3 ) and the proximal and distal myotendinous joint,
4 athletes have been treated for the...
Conclusion
The combined use of Dry Needle and intratendinous or intra-joint viscosupplementation gave great results,
accelerating the recovery of the athlete.
