Background/Introduction
Digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is a diagnosis modality improving breast cancer detection mainly in the case of tumor masses developed in dense breasts (1,
2,
3,
4).
Synthesized C-View 2D images are generated from the 3D DBT data acquired during the mammography exam.
In May 2013,
the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved C-View 2D images to be used in place of the conventional 2D exposure (2D-FFDM) eliminating the need for a separate 2D exposure in a breast tomosynthesis exam.

Description of activity and work performed
Materials and methods
The DBT system and images acquisition:
Hologic Selenia Dimensions®.
FFDM and DBT acquisitions: COMBO-HD mode.
The COMBO-HD mode acquires in the same compression both DBT and FFDM images and generates the synthesized C-View 2D image.
Cranio-Caudal incidence.
Clinically used AEC mode.
Breast phantom:
Tomomam®3D (ORION,
France,
serial number 1257-00-00A E2591A) (7).
Image parameters:
Four parameters were tracked from February until June 2016 at the European Georges Pompidou Hospital (Paris,
France) to compare image quality between DBT and C-View 2D images versus 2D...
Conclusion and Recommendations
Results from our phantom study confirmed a difference in term of image quality between DBT and synthesized images versus 2D FFDM:
Better image scoring when using DBT associated to C-View 2D imagecompared to 2D FFDM alone due to the contribution of DBT images.
Large differences are noted between glandular and adipose tissues on DBT and C-View 2D images compared to 2D FFDM images.
SDNR values for adipose tissue are about the same for the three types of images and even slightly better on DBT images....
