Purpose
To measure and quantify myocardial Late Gadolinium Enhancement (LGE) at the inferior ventricular insertion point in patients with Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) who underwent intervention and who had not.
Methods and Materials
48 patients out of which 23 males and 25 female aged between 16-33 with ToF underwent 1.5 T cardiovascular magnetic resonance (Siemens MAGNETOM Aera) for routine assessment of cardiac function and LGE, analyzed in the period from April 2014 to April 2019.
Two groups were identified: the first one included 27 patients who underwent surgical replacement of the pulmonary valve and then they were subjected to CMR examination.
The other group of 21 patients had no previous intervention.
LGE quantification was carried by one researcher...
Results
Right Ventricle functional parameters for patients treated were:
- end-diastolic volume (EDVi) = 112 ml (90-125)
- stroke Volume (SV) = 102 ml (73-126)
Right Ventricle functional parameters for patients not treated were:
- EDVI =79 ml (73-107)
- SV = 80 ml (63-91)
A significant reduction of RV EDVI and RV SV was observed (p=0.028 and 0.048 respectively).
Other funcional parameters of RV for patients treated were:
- ESVi = 46 ml (35-58)
- EF = 55% (52-64)
Instead for patients not treated were:...
Conclusion
1- In patients with ToF treated for pulmonary valve replacement a significant difference of RV EDVi volume and RV SV was found.
2 - Inferior ventricular insertion point LGE was present in both groups without a significant difference.
