Purpose

The purpose of our study was to determine the relationship between the MR-parameters of the heart and the most frequent cardiac arrhythmias in patients with hypertrophic cardiomaopathy HCM. Both supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias are common in patients with HCM. It was published that the rate of paroxysmal supraventricular arrhythmias among the HCM patients was approximately 38%, whereas the rate of premature ventricular beats was more than 88%. Speaking about nonsustained ventricular tachycardia (VT), the rate of it was near 15% to 31% among HCM patients....

Methods and Materials

We performed 56 cardiac magnetic resonance studies on 3T Philips Achieva and 1.5T Siemens of the patients with HCM in the age 45±12.36 before the surgical intervention. Male (57%; n=32). 66% (n=37) patients were with cardiac arrhythmias by ECG-data. Observation period was during 9 years. 71,4% (n=40) patients underwent surgical correction of HCM after MRI, 17,5%, n=7 of them interventional one. Results

We have divided patients into 4 groups. The first group represented 19 (33%) patients with HCM without arrhythmias. In the second group were 12 (21,4%) patients with HCM and atrial fibrillation (AF). In the third one were 30 (35,7%) patients with HCM and ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ine fourth one were 5 (8,9%) patients with HCM and AV-block. Conclusion

Analysis of MRI markers indicates an important role in association with various arrhythmias in patients with HCM. Changes in the functional parameters of the LV and RV, and the volumetric parameters of the LA depend on the presence of arrhythmias.
