Technical success (<30% residual stenosis) was achieved in 58 of 60 cases (96,7%). We have failed in two cases because of the
tortuos distal internal artery and of the
thrombus in the stenosis. The femoral access was used in majority of cases. Only in one patient the
axillar access was used because of high grade proximal stenosis of the inominate artery. In the same session and approach we dilated also the
stenosis of the ipsilateral internal carotid artery under the cerebral protection.NIH-NINDS stroke scale at start was 1,13 while it increased to 1,6 after the procedure. After the first months it decreased to 1,44 and after 3 month to 1,26.The ANOVA for repeated measurements was not significant (p=0.32). Periprocedural minor stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) occurred in 3 of 60 patients (1,8%):
hyperperfusion syndrome in one,
minor stroke with kontralateral hemiparesis in second and TIA in the third patient have occurred. In 57 patients CAS were performed without any complications. Follow-up in all patients revealed no TIA or new strokes neither internistic complication.
