Background

Primary liver abscess caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae is being reported with increasing frequency in Southeast Asia, including Korea, Singapore, Japan, and Thailand, and has become an emerging infectious disease in the United States and worldwide.

It is often complicated by bacteremia, sepsis, and metastatic infection of the CNS, eye, and other sites, with the risk being increased in patients with impaired host defenses. It is called as invasive Klebsiella pneumoniae liver abscess syndrome and the mortality rate has been reported up to 10.8%.

However the corresponding radiologic features of Klebsiella pneumoniae liver abscess or other metastatic infections have not been described before.
