Conclusion
It 's been experimentally demonstrated,
in rodents,
the irritancy of the respiratory epithelium hypertonic iodinated contrast medium,
which produces pulmonary edema,
when introduced by bronchial.
In 1968,
reported the death of a 60 years old patient,
with cardiopathy and dysphagia,
accusation of respiratory failure after inhalation of Gastrografin.
In 1974 a 78 years old patient,
Boerhaave's syndrome comes to death,
as a result of pulmonary edema,
24 hours after injection of sodium diatrizoate (Hipaque).
In 1983,
a 53 years old male,
which was administered amidotrizoate,
for the demonstration of an esophageal fistula after surgery,
was seized with severe pulmonary edema,
without a fatal outcome.
In 1986 a young patient of almost 4 years,
was seized by severe hypoxia,
after administration of Gastrografin for diagnostic purposes,
recovered after washing greater lung.
In 1992 a 43 years old patient,
with cough,
dyspnea and vomitus comes to death,
after inhalation of Gastrografin.
In 1996,
a 64 years olf patient is seized with a severe anaphylactoid reaction after administration of Gastrografin,
for CT scans.
After all the adverse reaction after administration of Gastrografin,
notably acute pulmonary edema from accidental aspiration,
are unusual,
such events are an important consideration for the possible tragic consequences,
in patients with poor physical conditions,
however when you may fear episodes of aspiration of contrast.
The responsibility for the administration of contrast media should,
therefore,
be assumed by the radiologist,
under investigation and under close supervision.
