Conclusion
When using the practical guide as described,
furthermost cystic liver lesions can easily be differentiated.
Benign,
simple cystic lesions present with a smooth,
thin wall and occasionally with a peripherally located thin septum.
Premalignant,
neoplastic lesions demonstrate multiple enhancing internal septations.
Multiple enhancing septations in combination with solid enhancing nodular components or a thick irregular enhancing wall with solid enhancing components can be observed in malignant,
neoplastic lesions.
Infectious lesions also demonstrate an irregular thick wall,
however frequently with a hypodense rim around the lesion in pyogenic abscesses.
Multiple internal cystic lesions within a larger cystic lesion are typical for infectious echinococcal cyst.
