We analyze 180 cases in age range (15 - 90 yo); 105 patients without fractures (60 female,
45 male); 74 patients with fractures: undisplaced fractures 33 patients (19 female,
14 male ); displaced fractures 41 (23 female,
18 male),
Fig.1 a,b.
Intra and extra articular types are not taken into account due to small groups.
All studies were performed at the digital (DR) X ray system Brivo DR-F (GE,
USA) with flat-panel digital detector with regularly performing the procedure of quality control (QAP),
50 KV,
30 mA.
For example,

We calculate Es-BMD (Estimated bone mineral density) index based on X-ray data.
In general:
(mathematical expression 1)
Where - I - intensity X ray after absorbtion
I0 - intensity X ray after absorption
d - tissue thikness
μ - absorbtion coeficient
When we considered two tissues (soft tissues and bone) absorption coefficient can be calculated for every tissues ( of course,
under certain restrictions).
(mathematical expression 2)
Where – I1 the intensity of the radiation beam after passing through th soft tissue and bone (Fig.
2b)
I2 - the intensity of the radiation beam after passing through the soft tissue (see Fig 2 b)
d2 - bone thickness
μ2 – bone absorption coefficient [cm-1] - correlated with Es-BMD
a1,2 – coefficients dependents from the shape of the finger (include soft tissue thickness).
