DoRadiology’s dedicated content management system for native-code-iOS-publishing,
DiRector, was used to create this app [4].
The app contains thousands of images from hundreds of real-life clinical cases.
It covers everything from systematic interpretation of abdominal radiographs to complex abdominopelvic pathology on cross-sectional imaging.
Normal anatomy as well as a wide spectrum of gastrointestinal,
hepatopancreaticobiliary and genitourinary pathologies are illustrated in both male and female patients.
The app incorporates a multitude of imaging modalities,
from plain radiographs and fluoroscopy to ultrasound,
Computed Tomography,
Magnetic Resonance Imaging and nuclear medicine.
Each chapter includes a mixture of common and rare,
simple and more complex cases.
Clinical cases follow a sequential structure and include the patient’s background clinical information,
relevant imaging,
radiologists’ reports and the final diagnosis.
Additional information is provided on all topics reviewed.
The contents of the app can be read sequentially as in a textbook,
users can choose to skip information they are already comfortable with and move on to less familiar topics or can search for themes using the advanced search function.
The app offers interactive media with image annotations,
text links and sound as well as PACS-like functionality,
i.e.
scroll,
zoom,
pan.
These features,
combined with the app’s touchscreen format,
result in a user-friendly,
individualised and fully-interactive teaching aid.
The app enables students to access large volumes of educational material at any time,
in any location,
without the need for internet availablility (after the initial download).
