Methods and materials
The study was conducted between January and June 2018 on the basis of the Federal Breast Care Center of The Russian Scientific Center of Roentgenoradiology Russian Ministries of Healthcare and involved 242 women with high dense breast tissue (С, D BI-RADS 2013) aged 27 to 83 years (mean age 47.0).
Standard digital mammography (MG) was performed at Amulet (Fujifilm, Japan) in two standard projections: medio-lateral and cranio-caudal, in 7.5% of cases an additional lateral projection either. Evaluation of mammograms was carried out at the workstation by dedicated software Vidar DICOM Viewer (Vidar, Russia). Average examination time: 8 min. Average time of data interpretation and protocol formation: 4 min.
All women were examined on Invenia ABUS (GE Healthcare, USA). The examination was carried out in a supine position. Each breast was scanned in three projections. The largest area covered in one scan is 15.4 x 17.0 cm, the axial section thickness is 0.2, the scanning depth (distance from the sensor surface to the chest wall) varied from 3.5 up to 5 cm depending on the volume of a breast. Images were evaluated at the Mammography workstation (GE Healthcare, USA) in two main planes (axial and coronal), volumetric construction and evaluation of images in the sagittal plane were performed in some cases. Average examination time: 12 min. Average time of data interpretation and protocol formation: 3,5-7 min.
All women were examined on expert-class ultrasound equipment with high-frequency linear sensors (8-18 MHz) Siemens Acuson S2000 (Siemens AG, Germany), ESAOTE MyLab ClassC (Esaote, Italy). The study was carried out according to the standard protocol: examination in B-mode by quadrants, including the area behind the nipple, evaluation of findings using color Doppler mapping, compression elastography, an additional assessment of regional lymph nodes. Average examination time: 11-18 minutes. Average time for data interpretation and protocol generation: 5 min.
Histological or cytological verification was performed in 122 cases.
The output of all studies was summarized in a common crosstab. Statistical data processing was carried out using the statistical software package Excel (Microsoft Office 2016) and the program IBM SPSS Statistics 22.
