Methods and materials
STUDY DESIGN:
Cross sectional Observational Study.
TOTAL NUMBER OF CASES
245 patients (both male and female) with atypical chest pain.
AGE RANGE
30-60 years.
STUDY PERIOD
The study was conducted from December 2012 to January 2018 at Rehman Medical Institute, Peshawar.
EXCLUSION CRITERIA: Atrial fibrillation, poor breath-holding and allergy to contrast media.
DATA ACQUISITION:
Calcium scoring was conducted with CT Coronary angiography on 128 slices Multidetector CT scanner. Coronary angiography is feasible in patients with stable heart rhythm, able to breath-hold for 20 seconds. Coronary angiography protocol consisted of performing a CT scan in craniocaudal direction to cover the heart from the pulmonary trunk to apex with a 1.25 mm collimation. 90 ml of contrast is given intravenously.
PROSPECTIVE ECG PROTOCOL
In a patient with a heart rate >60bpm, a prospective ECG protocol was used.
RETROSPECTIVE ECG PROTOCOL
In a patient with a heart rate between 60 -90 bpm, a retrospective protocol was used.
DATA ANALYSIS:
Two experienced Consultant radiologists with at least five years of experience of CT coronary angiography performed coronary angiography independently. Images were reviewed on Vitrea Work station for calcium scoring calculation and vessel stenosis was assessed.
Calcium scoring was calculated according to the Agatston method. Their work was then compared and was found similar with no obvious difference.
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS:
A retrospective study of prospectively acquired data was achieved with the help of Microsoft Excel and SPSS.
Patients were grouped into A, B ad C on the basis of disease severity.
- GROUP A: Normal angiography.
- GROUP B:> 50% Lumen stenosis.
- GROUP C:<50%Lumen stenosis.
