Conclusion

Given the increased use of central venous catheters it is expected a concomitant increase in the incidence of UEDVT. Therefore it is essential to know its strongest risk factors and identify it timely.

Ultrasonography is the preferred modality to evaluate more peripheral veins and Computed Tomography can be used to evaluate more central veins. Conventional venography is reserved to when less invasive modalities are inconclusive and when there is high likelihood of needing percutaneous treatment.
