Background

Intestinal obstruction is defined like a complete or partial interruption of the flow of intestinal contents. It is one of the most common scenario presenting to the Emergency Department, accounting for 20% of admissions with acute abdomens.

Understanding the real cause of obstruction is mandatory for clinicians and surgeons, in order to allow the patient to receive the best treatment.
