Background
Pelvic radiographs are cheap to acquire and very easily accessible yet are able provide an abundance of hip or pelvic diagnostic information if correctly interpreted.
In some instances,
the diagnosis is not very obvious and requires a conscious effort from the reader to analyse specific characteristics of the radiograph.
These characteristics include specific bony landmarks,
contour lines and angles formed by lines drawn through the landmarks on the radiograph.
Distortions of these contour lines or angles has been shown to be a very good predictor for particular diagnoses.
This publication gives a brief rundown of what these landmarks are,
how these measurements are taken and the main differential when the contour or angle is abnormal.
