Conclusion and Recommendations
The introduction of clinical decision support for medical imaging in Europe is a significant development in the practice of radiology and in the cooperation between referring physicians and radiologists.
It is part of wider trends towards embedding evidence-based medicine in order to improve patient safety,
quality of care and health outcomes.
Through its Working Group on Imaging Referral Guidelines,
the ESR is working to ensure that up-to-date criteria for appropriate referrals are available to physicians in Europe.
Future priorities for this initiative include strengthening the cooperation with other medical specialties,
and engaging with national radiology societies to ensure that referral guidelines reflect national best practices.
As the number of users of ESR iGuide increases,
learning from and incorporating feedback from clinical practice will become a crucial element of the continued improvement of the ESR's imaging referral guidelines.
The ECR 2017 programme includes a session on clinical decision support on Friday,
3 March,
08:30-10:00 in the Studio 2017.
Make sure you attend the session on CDS and visit the ESR iGuide booth (G/39) on the first floor of the Austria Center Vienna.
