Description of activity and work performed
Data collection
A retrospective data collection was conducted on patients aged > 18 years and weighted 70 ± 10 kg who underwent CT-examinations in our department in 2017.
Six clinical indications in trunk region (Table 1) was studied based on their frequency in our department.
The total examination Dose length product (DLP) values were collected from the Dose Archiving and Communication System (Radiation Dose Monitor,
Medsquare).
The clinical indication was extracted from the medical report.
Fifty-fifth and 75th percentile values of total DLP were calculated on the distribution of pooled data by clinical indication.
Results
Total examination DLP were collected for 136 examinations performed on Discovery 750HD CT scanner (GE Healthcare).
Examinations were evenly distributed between male and female patients (52% male,
48% female).
Table 1 shows the 50th and 75th percentile values of the total examination DLP in function of clinical indication.
The analysis for abdomen and pelvis showed that examination DLP values for tumor assessment indication were significantly higher than the other indications and significantly lower for abdominal pain indication.
A significant difference was also observed between tumor assesment and infection indications in chest abdomen and pelvis region.
