Conclusion and recommendations
Only a small number of Irish hospitals use Dose Tracking or Management software.
In general,
this is only for CT and interventional radiology/cardiology.
There is no consistency in recording of doses nationally.
A combination of electronic,
logbook,
+/- dose tracking software has been reported by survey respondents.
It is therefore difficult to make comparisons between sites and achieve consistent standards nationally.
MERU has carried out a survey of CT doses with clinically indicated DRLs in Ireland in 2017 [1] which was presented as a Eurosafe poster in ECR 2018.
However this was based on populating spreadsheets.
The evidence from the dose management system availabiity data presented here would suggest that the majority of this data came from manual recording techniques.
Ireland currently has an integrated national PACS system and National Integrated Medical Imaging System (NIMIS).
This connects 57 radiology departments across the country.
Radimetrics (Bayer) dose management software is currently available as part of the NIMIS project and is awaiting implementation.
This would allow national aggregation of patient dose data in a more streamlined and accurate manner,
allow realtime comparison between sites which would further facilitate dose optimisation in an efficient manner.
