Conclusiones
La enfermedad arteriosclerótica de la arteria carótida interna es la causa más frecuente de ictus isquémico.
El tratamiento endovascular con endoprótesis es una alternativa a la endarterectomía en determinados casos,
registrándose resultados a corto plazo similares entre ambos métodos.
La restenosis tras colocación de endoprótesis carotídea es una complicación infrecuente,
generalmente asintomática que se diagnostica incidentalmente en los controles ecográficos.
El único factor de riesgo identificado en el desarrollo de restenosis es el tratamiento endovascular secundario a endarterectomía previa.
No existe consenso acerca del tratamiento idóneo en los pacientes con restenosis,
siendo la angioplastia el procedimiento más frecuentemente empleado.
Estos pacientes presentan un pronóstico excelente,
si bien los estudios hasta la fecha publicados están limitados debido a la carencia de resultados a largo plazo.
Ante estos hechos,
resulta necesario definir potenciales factores de riesgo que pudieran tratarse para prevenir la aparición de restenosis así como la identificación del tratamiento idóneo y el establecimiento de unas claras indicaciones acerca de qué casos deben ser revascularizados.
