At our institution, we have an internal system for submission of neuroradiology cases as either “good calls” or “learning opportunities”. Selected cases are reviewed at regular intervals at our institution to facilitate quality improvement. This system functions as a non-punitive educational tool to provide feedback to attending radiologists and trainees alike, as well as to emphasize salient learning points from challenging cases in neuroradiology.
Submitted cases to our quality improvement initiative included 35 “good calls”, as well as 87 “learning opportunities” which were submitted and peer-reviewed by neuroradiology faculty at our institution between 2015-2018. For this exhibit, we selected cases from this submitted data that we believed offered the most learning potential. Our goal was to uncover blind spots in our search patterns, as well as to identify interpretative pitfalls to improve patient care. We hope that additional institutions will learn from our quality improvement programs and may consider creating their own.
