Mammography and breast ultrasound are the most commonly used primary imaging methods in breast cancer diagnostic, used also in male population. Radiographic characteristics are mostly identical to those found in female breast cancers. We retrospectively reviewed clinical, radiologic and pathologic records of 193 patients who had a unilateral palpable breast mass and were surgically treated at the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia (IORS), Belgrade, RS between January 2000 and December 2011.

122 patients (mean 63.0 ± 11.8 years) had malignant lesions, 71 patients (54.8 ± 16.9 years) had benign (p=0.0004). The most common malignant lesion was IDC (74%) while medullar, papillary and tubular carcinomas and malignant Schwanoma were represented by 1.8% each. The most common benign lesions were gynecomastia and fibrocystic changes (43.5% and 20.3% respectively) and the least frequent were intraductal papilloma and foreign body granuloma (2.9% and 1.4% respectively). The radiologic examination is obligatory in all cases of unilateral palpable male breast lesions.
