Learning objectives
The purpose of our educational exhibit is to illustrate spectrum of thoracic Computed Tomography (CT) diagnostic pitfalls that may occur in oncological setting.
Background
CT represents the most common imaging technique for diagnosis,
staging and follow-up in oncologic field.
Our exhibit should benefit any student,
resident or young radiologist wishing to review and describe the acquisition protocol,
the anatomy with the normal anatomical variants,
the main borderlands-of-normal findings,
and post-treatment changes that can simulate recurrence of CT examination.
Findings and procedure details
Herein we propose a step by step overview that can help poor experience radiologists avoiding misdiagnosis in the evaluation of oncologic CT examination.

Basic acquisition protocols
Knowledge of main standard CT acquisition protocols,
post-processing techniques and artifacts that can occur is imperative for avoid misdiagnosis and correctly guide staging and treatment of oncologic patients.
Contrast enhancement CT represents the most used technique in oncology field to better recognize tumoral lesions,
to define their anatomical relationships,
to detect metastases...
Conclusion
In order to improve confident in reporting an oncologic CT examination is fundamental to know and recognize as many as possible mimickers of malignancy.
