In 2009 the first guidelines for reporting coronary CT were published. Since then, there have been significant technological changes in the acquisition of the images as well as changes in the scope of the clinical applications of coronary CT. An adequate interpretation of all the information acquired, demands a systematic approach in order to enforce the full potential of this technique. Accurate diagnostic information can guide cardiologist in further diagnostic tests and implementation of proper therapeutic treatment.

Coronary CT images should be acquired as isotropic submillimeter 3-dimensional electrocardiography (ECG)-gated data sets (1), in either retrospectively gated helical mode or prospectively triggered sequential mode. Images must be reviewed interactively on cardiac-specific interpretation software platforms capable of 2- and 3-dimensional displays in all conventional reconstruction formats. CAD-RADS has been developed as a multi-disciplinary effort involving radiology and cardiology societies, with the main goal of creating a standardized report for coronary CT results. It is important to be familiarized with this method in order to improve communication in a clear and consistent terminology, to better assess the impact on patient outcomes.
