Aims and objectives
Any clinical imaging department is to support the residential treatment of patients and thus impacting the respective cost and quality.
In search of diagnosing the clinical relevant problem of the patient the physician in charge is specifying an order on the imaging department for a radiological exam.
Depending on his training level,
the available information and,
most important,
his capability of systematically conducting a close investigation the order might not be up to standard.
This study shows a failure diversity caused by...

Data basis
This study is based upon the analysis of RIS-data of 45 clinical imaging departments (between 2001 and 2018),
15% of which are teaching hospitals,
25% tertiary,
51% secondary and 9% primary hospitals.
Each analysis was aiming at identifying potentials for the improvement of for instance utilization of resources (staff,
modalities,
consumables),
structures,
process-management,
productivity,
technology,
order management by clinical departments,
radiological pathway management,
cost-revenue balance and outcome.
This study is focusing on the order management of clinical departments requesting radiological...

Daniel Kahneman`s consolidated finding is summarized in fig.
1,
every human individual is coming to a decision on two different ways,
either intuitively and heuristically on the basis of recalled patterns or using a systematical approach by analytical tools to link up consolidated knowledge critically.
Clinicians under pressure of time adhere to the first one specifying erroneous orders on the imaging department depending on the training level of the requesting clinician.

Conclusion
Conclusion
Subclinical requests for radiological exams are burdening the hospital cost budget significantly up to 40% of the total cost of an imaging deoartment.
This comes true because radiologists generally don’t verify the need for an exam,
they may justify the modality requested for the order.
To adequately solve this problem,
the imaging department is to verify the need for an exam requested by a clinical department by a trained radiologist.
The requesting clinical department is to employ AI-systems for decision support to specify an...
