Learning objectives
The objective of the study is, on the one hand, the exposure of the main causes of secondary arterial hypertension (HT) and on the other hand the description and illustration of the findings with different imaging techniques.
Background
Introduction
HT is defined by systolic blood pressure >130mmHg and diastolic blood pressure >80mmHg. It is a very prevalent disease in developed countries (it occurs in approximately 45% of adults) and although it is usually asymptomatic, it is essential to treat it since it represents a cardiovascular risk factor. It can also favor the development of complications such as heart attack, subarachnoid hemorrhage, aortic aneurysm, posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome...
In most cases the origin is unknown and its management focuses on controlling blood pressure through...
Findings and procedure details
A series of patients with secondary HT subjected toCT in our hospital during the last years have been retrospectively reviewed. The most relevant imaging findings are shown.
Conclusion
Imaging studies play a fundamental role in the etiological diagnosis and evaluation of secondary HT, whether endocrine or not, as well as in the diagnosis of complications.
