Conclusion

Sufficient recanalization was independent of thrombus histology beside a higher prevalence of myofibroblasts in thrombi of non-recanalized vessels. Erythrocyte rich thrombi were rare in cardioembolic stroke. Endothelial fragments were found indicating possible vessel wall injury during aspiration.
