The effect of adaptive section collimation on patient effective dose from retrospective ECG-gating coronary angiography on a 256-slice CT scanner

Results

Effective dose to patients undergoing standard retrospectively gated CCTA on a Philips Brilliance iCT scanner was found to decrease by 15.0% when the dynamic eclipse collimator was activated and a nominal scanning length of 125 mm was used.

For the additional nominal scanning lengths of 100 and 160 mm the percentage difference in effective dose were found to be 18.9 and 9.0 %, respectively (Figure 1).
