Purpose
To explore the clinical value to show theintraparotid facial nerve segment withMicro surface coil combined with 3D-PSIF-DWI sequence
Methods and Materials
21 healthy volunteers scanned with Micro surface coil(4cm) and head coil combined with 3D-PSIF-DWI sequence.
The Imagings of the intraparotid facial nerve segment between two kinds of coil were analyzed and compared.
The display ratio and SIR (ratio of singnal intense) of facial nerve to parotid were accounted and compared between two kinds of coil
Results
The ratio of displaying the main trunk,
first branch (cervicofacial branches、temporofacial branches ) and secondary branch (temporal branches、zygomatic branches、buccal branches、marginal mandibular branches、cervical branches ) of facial nerve in parotid gland sectionwas 100%、97.6%、51.4% with head coil combined with 3D-PSIF-DWI sequence, and 100%、100%、83.8%with micro surface coil. There was statistical significant difference(p <0.05)in the ratio of displaying the facial nervesecondary branches between two kinds of coils. The SIR(ratio of singnal intense) of facial nerve to parotid was 1.37±1.06 in the group with head coil combined with 3D-PSIF-DWI sequence, and the other...
Conclusion
The facial nerve trunk and branches of parotid gland section were displayed more clearly with micro surface coil combined with 3D-PSIF-DWI sequence scan than that with head coil.
The display ratio and SIR (ratio of singnal intense) of facial nerve to parotid could be increased in the imagings with micro surface coil.
It would have more extensive application in displaying the intraparotid facial nerve anatomy and paroid surgerywith micro surface coil.
