Background
Cholangiocarcinoma is an adenocarcinoma and can arise anywhere on the biliary tree.
Besides the location in the biliary tree,
it can also behave in different ways.
Because of this many classifications have been proposed,
being the one from the Liver Cancer Study Group of Japan the one we are going to use for this EPOS.
This tumor can be classified based on the location on the biliary tree as Intrahepatic and extrahepatic,
being the intrahepatic further divided in peripheric and hilar,
from beyond second order bile ducts.
Based on the biologic behaviour,
it can be classified as mass forming,
periductal infiltrating and intraductal tumor(Fig.
1-2).
We are going to illustrate this with cases from our hospital,
and show some of the mimics that can lead to misdiagnosis.
