Aims and objectives
To determine the frequency of intracardiac echogenic focus (ICEF) in a normal pregnant population and to investigate the relationship with anomalies.
Methods and materials
The records of 1542 pregnant women,
who were followed up in Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic of our hospital between the dates of January 2010 and January 2014 and sent to Radiology Department for anomaly scanning,
were analysed retrospectively.
Pregnant women,
who were administrated obstetrics and gave birth in our hospital,
were included in the study.
Pregnant women without obstetrics,
who migrated from the region for any reason,
and those who migrated within the region were not included in the study.

Results
The age average of 1542 pregnant women was 29,13 years (19-45 years).
The average gestational in the period when ultrasonography was performed was 20 weeks and 4 days (17-26 weeks).
It was the first pregnancy of 54% of the cases examined,
the second of 31%,
the third of 10% and the forth of 6%.
ICEF was diagnosed at 38 of 1542 cases.
The ICEF frequency was calculated as 2.46%.
The age average of the pregnant women with ICEF was 28.21 years (22-35 years).
34 cases...
Conclusion
Even though ICEF is considered as an indicator of trisomy anomalies,
it may be seen in pregnant patients aged below 35 years,
with negative triple scan tests and no additional anomalies observed ultrasonographically.
