Methods and materials
This is a quantitative correlational study.
The population consists of non-transportable patients admitted at a large public hospital with a sample of 199 x-rays performed.
A full body phantom was used to quantify scatter radiation.
Three configurations were used: anteroposterior (AP) incidence of the chest,
with the phantom in the supine position and semi-sitting,
and the tangential abdomen.
The AP incidence of chest in the supine position (configuration 1),
the phantom was positioned in the supine position under the litter,
the image plate (IP) under the chest of the phantom and the x-ray tube perpendicular to the image plate.
The AP incidence of chest - semi-sitting position (configuration 2) was performed with the radiographic positioning doll semi-sitting under the litter,
with the headland raised to maximum,
the IP under the chest and by measuring the angle between the IP and the litter (64 degrees).
The x-ray tube of mobile equipment was angled in the cephalic direction to remain perpendicular to the IP.
The tangential incidence of the abdomen (configuration 3),
the phantom was positioned in the supine position under the litter,
the IP centered with the iliac crest and the x-ray tube perpendicular to IP.
In all configurations,
the field size (35 cmx 43 cm),
focus-film distance (1.27 m) (see variables) and the following instruments were used:
- Full-body anthropometric phantom;
- Mobile x-ray,
Mobilett XP Hybrid da Siemens;
- Dosímeter Atomtex AT1123;
- Detector semiconductor Unfors Xi.
