Results
Hematomas and site of bleeding were identified by CT-angiography in all cases (18 retroperitoneal,
13 anterior muscles).
In particular the site of bleeding was lumbar artery in 38% of cases,
epigastric artery (superficial or inferior) in 35% of cases (Figure 4-6),
an hypogastric collateral in 12% of cases; bleeding of both epigastric artery and hypogastric collateral was found in 9% of cases while contemporary bleeding of lumbar artery and hypogastric collateral was found in 6% of cases (Table 1).
INR mean value was 2,5 (range 1-11,3).
Average hemoglobin reduction was of 2,83 g/dl.
Technical success of embolization was obtained in 100% cases (particles were used in 60% of cases,
coils in 17%,
gelfoam in 16%,
and a combination of these materials in 7% of cases)(Table 2).
No complications related to the procedure were reported.
84% of patients assumed anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy demonstrating a correlation between the use of these drugs and the outbreak of spontaneous bleedings.
