Results
-Population characteristics: Between 2010 and 2016 we performed urinal tract protection on 17 (6 women and 11 men) consecutive patients with renal tumours.
The mean age was 70.9 years (range: 19-85).
The mean diameter was 27.4 mm.
Patient’s characteristics are resumed in table 1 (fig 3)
At pathology ,
the final diagnosis was a renal clear cell carcinoma for 13 patients,
a chromophobe cell carcinoma for two,
an eosinophilic cell tumor for one patient and a papillary cell carcinoma for one patient.
-Procedure characteristics: Technical success was achieved in 15 patients (88%) while RFA was not performed for two patients due to insufficient thermal isolation.
Procedure characteristics are resumed in table 2 (fig 4)
-Complications: During the hospitalization,
two grade 2 complications (13.3%) were reported such as hematoma and haematuria with no need of any specific treatment. At one month,
two patients (13.3%) had grade 2 complications,
one hematoma and one pyelonephritis treated by antibiotherapy.
At six months,
one patient (6.6%) developed a mild ureteral stenosis (fig 5) treated by a double J catheter.
-Oncologic outcomes: One recurrence was depicted at one year and was successfully treated by a new percutaneous RFA.
