Aims and objectives
• Reporting the results of 16 years long developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) semi-universal screening with US at our hospital
• Compare with those published in the literature
Methods and materials
NATURAL HISTORY OF DDH
•It is a common abnormality in the newborns (clinical and / or echographical)
• 90% of the detected with ultrasound at birth (immature and dysplastic),
evolve spontaneously to normality
• It is not possible to determine which will evolve towards normality and wich not
• Some are not detected in children age
DDH INCIDENCE
Depends of:
• Ethnicity
• What we do consider as DDH
• Screening scenarios:
• Clinical 3.8 to 28 ‰
• US 2.2 to 52.2 ‰

Results
SUMMARY OF 2001-2016 ACTIVITY:
•NB number: 62693
•Sonographic screening subjects:
•30375 girls
•2349 males
•Total of 37867 ultrasounds
•Support 96%
•Years 2012 and 2013 the program was suspended due to economical issues
FACTS:
•Detection age 1.6months (0-9)
•Treatment time 3.1 months (1-9)
•Number of late DDH: 15
SURGERY:
•Close surgery: 10 cases
•Open surgery: 0 cases
•Surgery Index: 0,03 ‰
•There have been no cases of avascular necrosis of the femoral head
•Healing without sequelae in all cases
Conclusion
With our screening we have obtained:
•Very early diagnosis
•No overtreatment
•Very low surgery rate
•No complications of treatment
•To our knowledge,
there are no undetected cases
•Efficacy parameters are among the best published
