Background
Balloon-assisted technique (BAT) consists in the use of a balloon catheter advanced in parallel fashion to the main catheter in the same artery to overcome problems during endovascular interventions.
In literature the use of BAT is widely reported in neurointerventional radiology referring in particular to the coiling of wide neck cerebral aneurysms and in interventional cardiology for the catheterization of tortuous arteries in anatomic unfavorable conditions.
In peripheral endovascular interventions BAT is rarely described and only few case reports can be found.
We describe three different cases of BAT: during the treatment of a pancreatic-duodenal artery aneurysm by deployment of a flow-diverter stent; to help the advancement of a covered stent in the renal artery in advanced EVAR procedure with "Chimney" or "Snorkel" stent deployment and for improving visibility and catheterization of an artery during a case of diaphragmatic artery feeding a small HCC.
