Methods and materials
A cross-sectional survey was administered to a total of 119 radiographers from 9 different healthcare facilities that agreed to participate.
This research used a sample characterization survey (Individual demographic variables,
job related variables and career related variables) in addition to the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI),
translated and validated to the professional’s native language.
The MBI is a 22-question instrument designed to measure the three stages of burnout syndrome,
in terms of Emotional Exhaustion (9 items); Depersonalization (5 items) and Personal Accomplishment (8 items),
where the professional should mark the answer in a 0 (never) to 6 (daily) Likert scale (Table 1).
Emotional Exhaustion (EE) is characterized by a strong feeling of emotional tension that produces a feeling of exhaustion,
lack of energy and emotional resources to deal with routines of professional practice due to daily contact with problems.
Depersonalization (D) Is the result of the development of negative,
sometimes indifferent and cynical feelings and attitudes around those people who come in direct contact with the professional,
who are their demand and object of work,
is a factor of protection,
but may represent a risk of dehumanization.
Personal Accomplishment (PA) at work is characterized as a trend that affects interpersonal skills related to professional practice,
which directly influences the way of attendance and contact with the people who work with the work,
as well as with the organization.
A high degree of burnout is reflected in high levels of Emotional Exhaustion (EE) and Depersonalization (D) and low levels in the Personal Accomplishment (PA) scale.
A low degree of Burnout is reflected in low levels in the Emotional Exhaustion and Depersonalization dimensions and high levels in the Personal Accomplishment dimension.
Descriptive and inferential statistics were obtained with SPSS V22.0
