Institutional review board exempted approval as no human subjects were involved.
Three reviewers independently examined the abstract books of a total of ten international conferences organized by the radiological society of Pakistan (RSP) from 2008 to 2017.
According to the inclusion criteria,
only original research articles corresponding to the submitted abstracts were selected.
According to the exclusion criteria,
review papers,
lectures,
invited talks and poster presentations were excluded.
All selected scientific papers were evaluated for publication using the Medline and Pakmedinet database.
Articles were searched by scanning the database using the name of the first author with the title of the abstract.
If there were no results to a search,
the process was repeated using the second and last author’s names.
If an article was identified during the process of search it was marked as “published”,
if otherwise it was marked as “unpublished”.
For the purpose of analysis,
following information was extracted from each article: radiological subspecialty,
radiological modality,
first author’s city of origin and name of the publishing journal.
Data was analyzed using SPSS version 22.0.
Chi-square tests were used to compare publication percentages for each category of variables.
Total number of oral presentations that were subsequently published were calculated.
Publication rate was defined as the ratio between the number of published articles and the total number of oral scientific presentations.
Number and percentage of publications originating from different cities of Pakistan were calculated along with the publishing rate.
