Figure 7 gives an overview of the distribution of absorbed doses of the organs of our interest without protection devices used to the absorbed doses of the abdominal organs located inside the field-of-view/ unshielded. The thyroid and the spleen have the highest absorbed doses. Absorbed doses decrease with the organs locate further away from the surface of the phantom and the field-of-view. The brain, the eyes, the ovaries, the uterus and the bladder received 36 to 81µGy of absorbed doses in CT chest without any protection device.
Figure 8 shows the insignificant differences in absorbed doses of the brain, the eyes, the ovaries, the uterus and the bladder of the phantom undergoing CT chest with and without using respective protective devices. Among the three pelvic protections we tested, significant dose reductions (ANOVA, p<0.05) were only found in the bladder using half lead skirts at the front and back of the pelvis or wrapping by a lead drape comparing to using a half lead skirt at the front of the pelvis.
