The evaluated patients had a mean age of 53.4 years (age range: 37-80 years old). For the malignant cases, the mean age rounded the 56.5 years, while for benignant cases it was of 56.5 years (figure n° 5).
The lesions were classified in microcalcifications (n°=431); architectural distortions (n°=81); asymmetries (n°=51); and nodules (n°=125). (figure n° 6). Table n°1.
In the architectural distortions, 73 studies were categorized BI RADS 4C and 8 BI RADS 5. (fig n° 7A)
The asymmetries corresponded to BI RADS 4 A (n°=23); BI RADS 4 B (n° =19) and BI RADS 4 C (n°=9). (fig n° 7B).
Regarding nodules, (n°=89) were categorized BI RADS 4 A; (n° =22) BI RADS 4 B; BI RADS 4 C (n°=18) and BI RADS 5 (n°=7). (fig n°8A).
Microcalcifications were categorized BI RADS 4 B (n°=243); BI RADS 4 C (n°=160); BI RADS 5 (n°=28). (fig n° 8B).
TOMO ONLY images (n°=18) represented a 2,61% of findings and were presented as architectural distortions (n°= 11) and asymmetries (n°= 7), in a similar way to other scientific studies (4, 5), (CASE N°1). The architectural distortions TOMO ONLY corresponded histologically to non-specific invasive carcinoma (n°=7)(CASE N°1); ductolobular invasive carcinoma (n°=1); radial scar (n°=2) and HDA (n°=1). (fig n° 9).
About 7 asymmetries TOMO ONLY, the histopathological results were (n°=1) Fibroadenosis; (n°=2) nodular stromal sclerosis; (n°=1) carbon granuloma, and (n°=3) non-specific invasive carcinoma being in one patient an ipsilateral finding. (fig n°10) (CASES N° 2 and N° 3).
Positive findings for cancer had an intermediate histologic grade (GH2), with estrogen and progesterone positive receptors and low HER 2 and Ki 67 negative.
The average size of the lesions tomo only was less than 10 mm.
The procedure was successful in 100% of patients. Significant complications were not registered, highlighting the posterior presence of mild to moderate hematomas in 11% of cases with their complete remission and without evidence of infection.
