Learning objectives
Review the categories of CAD-RADS - Coronary Artery Disease Reporting and Data System for acute and stable chest pain.
Provide an easily accessible atlas of the coronary CT findings and the CAD-RADS categories and modifiers
Recognize CAD-RADS as an improvement in communication of test results to referring physicians and subsequent patient management and prognosis.
Background
Coronary CTA is growing rapidly in its application and has proved to improve patient assessment and care. However, its development and clinical service implementation is heterogeneous, divided by cardiologists and radiologists alike, which has implications in standardising techniques and reporting metrics.
CAD-RADS - Coronary Artery Disease Reporting and Data System is a standardized method to report findings of coronary CT angiography (coronary CTA) that enables faster and standard decision-making regarding further patient management. It is a joint effort from all stakeholders involved in coronary CTA...
Findings and procedure details
The purpose of this document is to describe, discuss and illustrate the standardized reporting system for patients who have undertaken CTA in our tertiary center for stable chest pain or acute emergency presentation.
Cardiac CT studies performed between 2016 and 2018, were included with a total number of 5973 exams. The result aspires to be an easily accessible pocket atlas of coronary imaging findings and CAD-RADS classification.
Conclusion
CAD-RADS is a standardized system that is helpful to decrease variability among practitioners.
The main goal of CAD-RADS, to standardize report terminology for coronary CTA, improve communication between interpreting and referring physicians, facilitate research, contribute to peer review and quality assurance, with an endpoint to the improvement of quality of care.
